Recognition Night Preparations

Preparing for recognition night filled our March activities. We met on the 2nd. The girls were split into groups. One group worked on making posters with pictures of our past activities. The other group made paper flowers. The girls each had a turn with the different activities, but there wasn't enough time to complete everything at the first meeting. There had been a lot of activities to make posters for, and we still needed a few more flowers. So we met a second time, making a couple more posters and flowers. The girls were so creative with their posters.

Articles of Faith

Today we worked on learning and memorizing the Articles of Faith. Our main focus was the 13th Article of Faith. We learned a few activities ago that the girls LOVE scavenger/treasure hunts. So, that's what we did. The girls were so eager to find the next clue that sometimes they didn't listen to the entire clue and set out running the wrong direction. Together, they filled in blanks of the 13th Article of Faith and then memorized it. I was impressed because two of the girls really stuck with it. They didn't' think they could do it at first, but they worked together and got it.
We are officially keeping track of the memorized Articles of Faith since that is one of the Faith in God requirements. The girls passed off other articles that they knew. Each month we will work on memorizing an Article of Faith. The number we work on will correspond with the month number - for example, in March (the third month) we will work on the 3rd Article of Faith.

Learning and Living the Gospel - Follow the Prophet

We'd like to welcome Shelby, the newest 10-year-old to our group!
For our activity today, we worked on a goal in "Learning and Living the Gospel." We read a conference talk by President Monson. On the chalkboard, we made a rather large list of things that the prophet told us to do.
Afterwards, we played a game. The girls we paired up. Each girl had a paper taped on her back with something that the prophet has told us to do. The girls each took turns asking questions trying to figure out what was taped on their backs.

Developing Talents: Friendship Kits

We would like to welcome Ella, the newest girl to our group.

For our activity today, we finished up what we started last week.
Our first activity was the telephone game to reinforce being a good listener with our friends.
The girls put together "friendship kits" which had some tips and reminders for being a good friend. There were also some cute notes to give to our friends.
The girls passed off the 7th Article of Faith. We will begin to work on those; I just have to figure out a good system in doing so. I'll keep everyone posted with what we come up with.
I had hoped to work on another completely different activity, but we didn't have time. I'll save it for another time.

Developing Talents: Friendships

A Challenge:
Memorize the 7th Article of Faith and pass of at our next meeting on January 19th.
There will be a treat for those who do it!

For our activity today we talked about being a faithful friend. Our lesson and activities revolved around this topic. Some of the quotes in the lesson came from a message in the July 2010 Ensign, written by Pres. Eyring, "Faithful Friends."
We talked about the Savior and how we can become his friends as we serve others. I challenged the girls to be kind to those they already know and to make new friends because their lives will be blessed by doing so.
We went on a friend "tips" hunt (which the girls loved) where they found hidden tips about being a good friend.
We started to make friend notecards for our friendship kits. We didn't have time to complete the kits, so we will finish them the next time we meet.
A skill needed when being a friend is being a good listener. We did activities that helped us to be better listeners. In one activity, the girls were each paired up with another girl. They took turns describing a picture to the other girl who was drawing it. In the other activity, the paired up girls interview each other and shared what they learned with the rest of the group.
The girls seemed to have a great time. I had prepared so much for our activity, that we didn't have enough time to finish. The girls also wanted to do the "hunt" again. So the next time we meet, we'll finish up what I planned.
